blessings

can i just say that God is so good. He has been really teaching me to trust in Him. So my friend Cecily who came over to Perth, Australia with me got diagnosed with cancer while she was here in Australia and had to fly home a few weeks ago. We were all praying for her here at the YWAM base as well as people at home were praying for her healing.
well, she just got the test results this morning and they can't find any cancer in her body!!! what do i call that? A miracle as well as an answer to prayer. God is one the move. He is so good!

January/ February Update.. A bit of catch up!

G'day from down under! I have been in Australia for 4 months now! And it has been quite the exciting journey from home in San Diego to here in Perth, Australia!

Travels:
I went on a little vacation before I went straight to Perth after I left the U.S. I was able to visit friends in Ireland and England that I haven’t seen in years and it was great to catch up with them and to experience the different countries and their hospitality. In many ways, it prepared me for my ministry in Hospitality. Then I stayed in Sydney with my friend Cecily for 2 weeks before our final destination, Perth.

I saw God working in and through the different people I visited as they were involved in their church, or holding youth groups in their homes, loving their friends and family, being open and honest with one another about God‘s grace on their lives. I saw people’s passion for Jesus and it was a great encouragement for me to see this passion in their daily lives.

Perth!
I arrived in Perth, Australia the beginning of October. I joined what they call the backbone ministry which is needed to keep Youth With A Mission Perth running smoothly. I am in a season of working in Hospitality which is basically serving the base. Not necessarily the place where people go “Wow, your changing the world!” but I am more in the role of serving people day in and day out.
You might be asking, “So what does that mean? or what exactly do you do when you serve the staff?”
I am able to reflect in this time on what it means to serve the nations. So many different people from different places come in and out of this base every 3 months and I get to serve them as they are in a season of learning more on what it means to go out and disciple the nations in all spheres of society. So far I have really enjoyed this ministry and what God is teaching me through it.

It has taken a bit of time to get used to living and working with the same people everyday, having 150 staff to get to know, and having 150 students on base for 3 months, leave for outreach and then having a whole new crew of students come. It’s a completely different way of living, but I am beginning to enjoy it and realizing why God has me here at this time.

Something I am reminded of often about is from the book “A Cup of Cold Water” which says, “Our world is filled with scarred, hurt people and their needs will never be met unless we go beyond role-oriented relationships and share ourselves personally. For us, to identify with a person in need is to follow the example of Jesus. We are to serve people not only out of compassion for them, but also as a testimony to Jesus.”

I really wanted to catch up with you and let you know how things down under are going. I am in expectancy of an amazing year. There are a few more plans I have coming up that I will talk about in my next letter. Thankyou for your prayers and want to hear from you. You can email me at elizabethhuckaby@yahoo.com

live to love. love to live

Now living in a completely new environment, its encouraging to be surrounded by people who love Jesus and love others. The YWAM base is consistent in what it does, but people come and go so often that it becomes difficult to establish roots with people.

God is teaching me how to give more of myself to Him. To begin to slow down and look around at the people i see everyday. To slow down and see people as people. To slow down and love others. To slow down and love how God has created me and what i have to offer those around me.

Perfect love drives out fear. The way to put off fear then, is to put on love... love is self-giving. Fear is self-protecting. Love moves towards others, fear shrinks away from them. The more fear, the less love, the more love, the less fear.

Profound!

The new home for me, for now.

Perth. the other side of the world. the other side of the equator. a smaller, more quiet city than the one i come from. beautiful sunsets, but broken and lost people that walk its streets.

Now that i have been living here 3 weeks, i am beginning to get settled in and experiencing life in a completely new way. Completely uncertain of the future and yet hopeful for where it will take me.

God. My Father. Jesus Christ. His Passion. His love. all of which i am experiencing day in and day out. Its Him and me. I believe being here is another stepping stone in what His plans are for me.

My favorite time of each week is evangelism even though i have only done it once so far. We (as in 250 people who live on the YWAM base) go out into the streets of Perth and talk to people about Jesus Christ and pray with them. I was reading about Islam this past week and that whole religion and where its headed in the world today. scary stuff. and on Saturday i was walking through the city enjoying the day off, when my friend Sophie and I stumbled upon this booth selling Islam material which i found extremely fascinating and stopped to look at what the guy was selling. I asked him what He believed and i had to re-iterate the question before he answered that he was a Muslim. Well, we had a small discussion about Christianity and Jesus as well as Islam. I quite enjoyed his curiosity on the trinity and how Jesus is God. I enjoyed it because for one, I am in a country where i can talk about Jesus with Him and second, it furthers my curiosity on knowing more about how i know what i know and to go back to him with clear evidence as well as pray for Him. His name is Muhammed and he is in my prayers and i hope to see him this saturday with some clear evidence of who God is.

Well, it has been an eventful few months full of new places and new faces. From San Diego, to Ireland, Northern Ireland, England, Sydney and now Perth, i am living day to day, expectant of what each day God has for me and praying for joy so i can encourage those put in my life as each day comes!

leaving

its a few weeks before i leave for my trip to Australia. in some ways i see it as following my dreams because this is what i have always wanted to do. Although i have found out that with following your dreams, or following with Gods plans for my life comes many sacrifices and not just material ones.
Yet i am still so excited to see what God has in store!
